Raw Chocolate

At Sweetbits, we use raw cacao for many of our creations. Raw cacao is simply the bean from the Cacao tree (Theobroma Cacao), untreated and unheated. We use a low temperature to melt our cacao (104˚F) thus preserving its astounding array of health and well-being supporting properties.

Magnesium: One of the most deficient minerals in the Standard North American Diet, cacao is one of the highest natural sources of magnesium. Higher brain function, heart support, muscle relaxation (menstrual cramps included!), and increased alkalinity are just a few of the effects of proper magnesium consumption.

Antioxidants: Cacao has one of the highest concentrations of flavonol antioxidants of any food including green tea, red wine and yes, probably even Forbidden Plateau Wild Blueberries!

Phenylethylamine (PEA): PEA increases neurotransmitter activity in parts of the brain, elevating alertness and attention levels. High levels of PEA also elevate the level of dopamine in the brain, resulting in increased mental concentration and a positive joyful attitude; cacao is great for depression! Cacao and blue-green algae are the highest natural sources of PEA.

Anandamide: Another neurotransmitter, anandamide is the chemical that normally inserts itself into the receptor site that tetrahydrocannibinol (THC, the ‘high’ chemical found in cannibis) fits into. Along with significant amounts of anandamide, cacao also contains anandamide inhibitors which help leave the “bliss chemical” in your brain longer for it to work its feel good magic!

Tryptophan: This essential amino acid is found in significant amounts in the cacao bean. Tryptophan is essential in the diet for the production of serotonin, the primary neurotransmitter in the brain. Elevated serotonin levels are a natural anti-depressant, helping to alleviate anxiety and stress.
